Skills, how are they skills? We sometimes think of confidence and assertiveness as things we are just born with or not? Almost like blue blood, people say things like “I just don’t have it in me!” Or alternatively something you might achieve when you are “older” or had many many year’s of experience.
Sure experience will help this is a great way to solidify any skill, however confidence is all about feeling comfortable taking that first step, doing that daring action without fear or a safety net. Believing you can take care of yourself regardless of the outcome of the decision. This can be easily learned…sound impossible? I can help you, I have enabled many to take those steps from disempowered to empowered!
What is Assertiveness? Assertiveness is the quality of being self-assured and confident without being aggressive. These two skills are very much interlinked. Being assertive is being able to communicate what you want, comfortably, confidently and respectfully to the other party.
How do I ever achieve that? The only thing that holds us back from ever being assertive is our own judgements. I am skilled at asking people questions to help pick out these judgments. Once you find those that don’t serve you, you have the opportunity to ditch them! Sounds easy? It is.
